ABTS Computer-Based Testing
Coordinated through the American Board of Surgery (ABS)
The American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) was founded in 1948 for the purpose of protecting the public by establishing and maintaining high standards in thoracic surgery. To achieve this objective, the Board has established qualifications for examinations and procedures for certification and recertification. The ABTS is an independent, non-profit organization and a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties.
Before scheduling an examination appointment, you must have already:
- Applied for the Part I (Written) Examination through the ABTS website;
- Been notified of your eligibility to sit for the examination;
- Paid an examination authorization fee to ABTS.
First-time test takers must create a Pearson VUE web account. Please note that account creation may require up to 24 hours. You will be notified by email when your account is activated. Appointments may be made up to one business day in advance.
After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address and phone number of the test center, and directions to the test center.
